Adams Doubles as Rice Lake Speedway Dairyland Dash Opens
Rice Lake WI, August 30 – Blake Adams was a perfect two for two, winning both of the Modified feature races as the second annual Dairyland Dash started on Saturday night, August 30th at the Rice Lake Speedway.
One hundred and fifty four drivers from three states signed in to race on Saturday but Adams was the opening night star, winning the Midwest Modified feature and then coming back later in the evening to edge out another teenager, Kaden Blaeser, in one of the closest finishes of the 2025 racing season as he topped the Modified main event.
Other winners on a busy Saturday night of racing included Parker Anderson, Terran Spacek, Cade Nelson and Jake Smith.
Adams started on the outside pole for the Midwest Modified feature by virtue of passing points earned during heat race action. He flanked Brady Larson for the start but got the early jump to lead the opening laps. Will Moelter started in the second row but made a strong early statement as he drove past both Joey Jensen and Larson to take over the second spot and closely follow Adams.
By the halfway point of the race, Adams had opened up his lead by just a few car lengths while Moelter, Larson and Jensen continued a torrid battle for second. The race continued under the green and the front running cars caught the back of the pack with much traffic to work their way through.
The top four were challenged by the heavy traffic with all of them forced to make some real adjustments in their lines as they searched for openings to pass the slower cars.
As Adams continued his slight lead, the next three really had much congestion to deal with and Larson made a great move as he was able to get past both Jensen and Moelter to drive up to second with Jensen also getting past Moelter.
Adams secured his win when he got past three more back of the pack drivers and put them between himself and Larson as he drove home for the win. Larson, Jensen and Moelter followed while Ashley Boyum and Jake Stai spent the entire race battling for fifth with Boyum taking the spot.
For the track point champion in the Midwest Modifieds, it was Adams' second win in the class this year.
With impressive driving by the field, the Modified feature race also went from green to checkers without a single yellow flag being waved. Adams had once again earned the pole position after a great heat race win and he took the lead from Matt Leer at the drop of the green. Justin Weinberger was on the move early, coming from the third row to challenge Kaden Blaeser for the second spot but Blaeser then picked up the pace to fight off challenges and maintain that position.
Adams adjusted his line around the track as Blaeser started to slowly cut into his lead while those two pulled away from the field. Leer was riding the high side all the way around the track as he battled with Weinberger and Brady Uotinen for position.
Blaeser moved in to provide a stiff challenge for the lead as the race reached its end. With just five laps to go, Blaeser was able to slip inside Adams coming off turn four and briefly take over the lead. However, Adams fought back and as the leaders raced through traffic, Adams was able to find an opening quicker and drive back into the lead.
Blaeser wasn't done though as on the final lap he dove inside Adams once again as they moved through turn four and it was a race back to the line with Adams holding on by .072 seconds, or a bumper length, to get the win. Leer finished off a strong run as he held off Weinberger for third with Uotinen holding off Don Eischens for fifth. It was an impressive run by the whole field as only one driver out of the starting field of twenty five failed to finish the race.
For Adams, the wins were number thirty two and thirty three for him over the course of the racing season to date and his Modified win was his seventh, which ties him with Nick Koehler for the most wins at the track this season.
Shane Kisling returned to the Rice Lake Speedway and after earning the most passing points, he started on the pole for the Super Stock feature race and led the first two laps. He was quickly challenged however, by Joey Jensen and Curt Myers for the top spot.
Myers, who started fifth, used the outside line to gain speed and he drove past Kisling on lap three to take over the lead. Myers then led a number of laps with Jensen providing the stiffest challenge to his lead. Mike Loomis moved into third and Terran Spacek, who started eleventh first showed in the top five at the halfway point of the race.
Spacek was far from done though, as he continued to charge to the front, moving into third and pushing both Jensen and Myers for the lead. Following a lap ten yellow, Jensen made a severe challenge to Myers' lead and as those two were fighting it out, an opening suddenly developed on the low side of the track and Spacek dove for it and as the waters parted, Terran found himself in the lead. Myers fought back, trying to gain the lead back and they were jointed by Eric Olson, who had started fourteenth but used the low line to move steadily to the front.
Two late yellows kept the field bunched and while Myers tried his hardest to get the lead back, Spacek was just too quick as he held on for the win, his second of the year at the track. Olson continued to charge and drove under Myers right at the end to get second with Myers settling for third.
A post race incident at the scales saw the fourth and fifth place drivers disqualified from the event with Tommy Richards officially fourth and Shawn McFadden, who started eightteen, finishing out the top five
Twenty five drivers started the USRA Late Model feature but Cade Nelson had this race under his control. He started on the pole and led every lap to get his second win of the season at Rice Lake. For most of the race he was followed by Josh Wahlstrom who late in the going closed up the comfortable lead that Nelson had held until that point.
Late in the contest, Wahlstrom was within a couple car lengths of the leader when disaster struck the Rice Lake driver. A couple of slower cars got together and spun right in front of the leaders as they headed into turn four and while Nelson was able to avoid them, Wahlstrom was not and when he slammed into one of them, his car suffered damage that would require a tow vehicle to exit the track with his evening done.
Nelson then led the last two laps following the restart to get the win while Patrick Kelley, who started fifth, made a good charge at the end to move into second as he overtook Ryan Howe for the spot. Cooper Sundby came from twelfth to finish fourth with Steve O'Brien Jr next in line.
Parker Anderson earned a hard fought Street Stock victory in a race that saw the top three finishers cross the line in a group. Hunter VanGilder led the opening lap before Anderson was able to get past him and take over the lead. VanGilder and Danny Richards then went at it as they battled for second with VanGilder spinning on lap eight after contact. Those two then chose to discuss the incident under yellow with both asked by track officials to exit the speedway.
Anderson then found Shawn Amundson and Nick Traynor to be his most severe challengers. The race was stopped several times for the yellow due to spins and debris on the track but on each restart, Amundson was right to the inside of Anderson's car, looking for an opening while Traynor was trying to use the high groove to get around both the other drivers. The last few laps saw those three in tight formation as they fought for the lead.
Coming around the final corner, Anderson was able to hold them off with his winning margin being .237 seconds over Amundson with Traynor just to the outside of Amundson as they crossed the line.
Jimmy Randall made a rare appearance for the Dairyland Dash and he came home in fourth with Sam Fankhauser coming from nineteenth to complete the top five.
The Pure Stock feature saw some incidents take place during the race that played a part in the finishing order. Jake Smith and C.J. Wagner shared the front row for this race but Austin Fencl found an opening on the first lap that allowed him to drive past both the front row cars and take over the lead.
Fencl was in charge the first half of the race with Bob Wahlstrom moving into second and as the race reached hits halfway point, tighting up on the lead was Wahlstrom.
Wahlstrom tried several times to get under the leader but then, exiting turn four, there was contact between the two just as another driver spun to trigger the yellow. The contact was enough that Fencl had to pit to replace a flat tire while Wahlstrom was sent to the tail of the field for his actions.
This gave Jake Smith the lead after he started on the pole but slipped back slightly once racing began. Mark Barta found himself now in second and he was charging, trying to get the lead spot. Unfortunately, he pushed too hard in turn four on lap thirteen and spun around the leader.
He too was sent to the back for the incident and Smith got his spot back. The last couple of laps saw Wagner then ride the tail of Smith but Jake gave him no openings as he drove on for his first ever win at Rice Lake, becoming the ninth different Pure Stock winner in the track's most balanced division. Rob Grabon came from sixth to complete the top three.
The second half of the Dairyland Dash will take place on Sunday night, August 31st with all six classes in action again for a full program.
