Sprint Cars at Rice Lake Speedway May 31st

Rice Lake WI – For the first time in two years, the Sprint Car drivers of the Upper Midwest Sprint Series (UMSS) will be in action at the Rice Lake Speedway. Saturday night, May 31st, both the Winged and Traditional Series will be in action at the track, with each putting on a full program of heats and feature races. Having been rained out for their scheduled event last year, this will be the first opportunity for many of the drivers to race at the newly redesigned track.

Fans will note immediately the considerably different driving styles used by the drivers as they negotiate the third mile oval with the large top wing or running the more traditional looking cars. This series has traveled to several tracks already this year but this will be their first appearance in the Indianhead country of northwestern Wisconsin.

Leading the contingent of Traditional Sprint drivers will be Bryan Roach frm Welch Minnesota who is the current point leader of their series. A local flavor will be added to this division as the driver currently is second place in the points is Zach Widdes from right in Rice Lake. Adding to the local drivers is currrent Rookie of the Year leader Westen Johnson from Clayton. Over twenty drivers have already raced with this class in 2025 and a good field is expected on Saturday.

Leading the Winged division currently is a former feature winner here at the speedway, Chase Viebrock from New Richmond. Garrett Tatnell, who's family is originally from Australia but now calls Forest Lake Minnesota home, is second in the series points with Brett Peterson from Amery third.

Along with the two divisions of Sprint Cars, four of the regular divisions that race at the track weekly will be in action as the WISSOTA sanctioned Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks will all be racing a full point program of their own.

Pit gates will open at 3 pm on Saturday night, with the spectator grandstand opening at 4 pm. Hot laps for the Sprint Cars will be at 5:30 pm with racing to begin at 6 pm. Admission prices for this special event are: adults-$18, seniors and military-$14, kids 10 to 15- $8 and kids under nine will be admitted free of charge.

This event is proudly sponsored by Todd's Ready Mix Concrete and Built 2 Media Co.
