USRA Late Models at Rice Lake Speedway May 3rd
Rice Lake WI – A bonus division will join the racing action on Saturday night, May 3rd at the Rice Lake Speedway as the USRA Late Models will make the first of five visits to the track in 2025. They will be a part of the racing program that will also include five divisions of WISSOTA auto racing to make for a spectacular night of racing to open up the month of May at the speedway.
The United States Racing Association(USRA) Late Models, based out of Webster City Iowa, offer a more affordable way of going Late Model racing while still providing the look and racing action of the Late Model division. This group raced at the speedway over the Labor Day weekend in 2024 and with positive results have been booked for the track five times this year, with monthly visits to be topped by a double appearance during the Labor Day weekend Dairyland Dash at the track which completes the 2025 racing season.
In 2024, Kody Koski and Matthew Larson claimed the two features held at the track. Defending national champion Cade Nelson is expected to be on hand Saturday and will be joined by tough challengers like Lucas Peterson, Patrick Kelley, Jason McFadden, Todd Green and Kory Ressie. Local competitors that will be in action include Josh Wahlstrom from Rice Lake and Josh Bach from Barron. Former Street Stock racer at the speedway Ron Hanestad and defending WISSOTA National Pure Stock champion Brent Mindock are also expected to be in action. In all, somewhere around twenty drivers are planning to be on hand.
Along with the Late Models, racing will be held in the five divisions that race weekly at the track including the WISSOTA sanctioned Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks. Last week's opener saw two of the feature races decided by less than a half second and also saw two first time winners at the track. Rice Lake Speedway Friday night sister track, the Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie will be the presenting sponsor for Saturday night's action.
Pit gates will open at 3 pm on Saturday with spectator gates an hour later. The first green flag will drop at 6 pm. For further information and updates, follow the speedway website at www.ricelakespeedway.net and the speedway face book page.
