Adams The Winner in “Henry” Modified Special at Rice Lake Speedway

Rice Lake WI – May 10 – The first special event of the 2025 racing season at the Rice Lake Speedway was held on Saturday night and rookie Modified driver Blake Adams continues to dazzle as he went from the fifth spot in the running order into the lead of the race with less than ten laps to go, then held off Jack Rivord to win the Henry Repeating Arms Springtime Modified spectacular Saturday night at the Rice Lake Speedway.

In other racing action, Nick Traynor continued his winning streak as he took his third straight victory in the Street Stock class, Nick Koehler became a repeat winner in the closest finish of the night and new winners Devin Fries and Eric Olson also visited victory lane.

Next Saturday night, May 17th, one of the most popular events of the entire season will be held when Kid's Night at the track is presented with the fans allowed to go on to the track and visit with all the drivers before race time, along with the gigantic bike giveaway which in recent years has reached epic proportions.

One hundred and four drivers signed in to race on Saturday night from three states and Canada with the Henry Modified special the presenting race. Twenty four drivers started the race with young driver Aiden Hoffman, driving one of the Henry sponsored cars, grabbing the early lead. Track regulars Simon Wahlstrom and Joe Chaplin Jr ran right behind Hoffman in tight formation in the early going. Those three continued to fight for the lead with Hoffman showing the way with the others fighting for spots close behind.

The halfway point of the race saw Hoffman still in the lead with Brady Uotinen and Mike Anderson also working into the top five with much shuffling of position back in the pack. Adams was still not yet among the leaders at this point of the race.

With fourteen laps completed, there was a momentary tie up in turn one with the three leaders getting slowed and Chaplin Jr spun, getting a piece of Wahlstrom who also went around. This brought out the first yellow of the race with Chaplin Jr leaving the track with front end damage and Wahlstrom, minus a door, returning to start second when the green flew again.

This is the time when Adams made his move as he was now up to fifth and when the green reappeared, he shot to the outside of the track, running the high line and making it work as he drove past one whole row battling in front of him, then got past Uotinen for second and continuing his charge, raced around Hoffman to take the lead. This all occurred within two laps as when the yellow flew again for a spin with sixteen laps completed, Adams was scored the leader of the race.

Now it was Adams who had to protect the lead, with Hoffman now chasing but when the green again flew, it was Uotinen who shot into second with Hoffman slipping all the way back to fifth when the third and final yellow flew two laps later, setting up a seven lap dash to the finish.

Adams continued to lead but it was Jack Rivord who got past Uotinen for second and was now putting on the pressure. During the last few laps, Rivord rode the rear bumper of Adams but he couldn't make a pass as Adams drove on for his second win of the season here already with Rivord settling for third.

Hoffman recovered from his slip back in the field as following that last yellow, he also moved to the cushion and managed to fight his way back up to third at the finish, nosing out Uotinen for that spot. Dave Cain also came alive following the final yellow as he too moved to the top of the track to drive into the top five.

Adams' win in the Henry event earned him twelve hundred dollars as the sixteen year old continues show maturity far beyond his years behind the wheel of a race car.

The closest finish of the night was in the Midwest Modified main event where except for the electronic scoring, it would have been hard to determine just who took the win. Kolby Reed from Thunder Bay took the initial lead from the pole with Nick Koehler fighting him hard for the top spot. Koehler was using the cushion and two laps later was able to edge past Reed to take over the lead. Tyler Vernon was also moving forward along with Mike Schnider and they soon were in a tight, three way duo for the lead. Lapped traffic would be a factor at this point as when the three leaders went down the back chute, a slower car spun right in front of them with both Vernon and Schnider a part of the accident.

Schnider would be able to rejoin the race but unfortunately for Vernon, his night would be done.

By the halfway point of the race, Adams, doing double duty, had worked his way up to third ahead of Reed with Travis Anderson next in line.

Koehler continued to run the outside line but Schnider was getting a great run on the bottom and as the laps ran down, Schnider made it exceedingly close. Koehler was forced to adjust his line and on the final two laps, the two ran the track as if welded together. They came off the final corner door to door and at the finish, it was Koehler who held on by the smallest .022 second margin to take the win. Adams finished third with Reed and Cody Cimfl rounding out the top five. For Koehler, it was his second win of the year here after topping the opener.

The Street Stock class is normally one of the most competitive at the track but so far in 2025 it has been the sole domain of Nick Traynor. Saturday he took his third straight win after fighting his way past Hunter Van Gilder and then holding off Cody Cimfl to take the win.

VanGilder led the opening six laps of the race with Traynor and Andrew Hanson battling for position behind the leader. VanGilder began to feel the heat behind him by lap six with the field being bunched after three early yellows. Traynor moved to the outside and was able to drive into the lead just one lap later and then VanGilder and Hanson got together in turn three and the yellow flew once again.

Both drivers were eliminated by the tangle with Cody Cimfl and Danny Richards now the drivers directly behind Traynor.

From this point on, Traynor would then start to put distance on the field as he faced no challengers the later half of the race, driving on for the win. Cimfl hung tough to finish second with Travis Loew making the charge near the end of the race, slipping into third ahead of the duo of Danny and Cole Richards.

Eric Olson led from start to finish to record a popular win in the Super Stock feature. He started on the pole but had several different drivers putting pressue on his lead, starting in the early going with Alex Myers running the cushion and nearly getting past him. Olson, however, maintained his inside line and made it work while the positions behind him were rapidly changing. By the halfway point, it was now Curt Myers who was challenging as he used the top side to his advantage also. Shawn McFadden was also on the move as he raced up to third.

McFadden continued to move up as he also worked the inside line and was able to drive under Myers to take over second. A late yellow set up a two lap sprint to the finish and Olson took off well, putting some distance between himself and the pack. Myers tried the outside once again, edging up to second but then agains slipping back behind McFadden and that would be how they would finish the race. Matt Deragon and Leslie Leu completed the top five.

It was the first win of the year for Olson, the third most winning driver in this class in track history with his first Super Stock victory coming way back in 1998. There have been no repeat winners in the Super Stocks so far in 2025.

A first time winner emerged in the Pure Stocks after Eric Crosby had dominated through the first two weeks of the season. Devin Fries took the lead early and then fought off challenges from several other drivers to take not only his first win of the season, but his first feature win ever at Rice Lake.

Mike Karshbaum, Crosby and George Richards all took turns trying to take the lead away from the Phillips driver as this race was slowed a number of times due to spinning cars triggering the yellow flag.

Crosby looked several times to the inside of Fries and nearly got by on several occasions but each time, Fries would fight off the challengers. Then it was Richards who started working higher on the track who would drive past Crosby and then several times try to get past Fries up top. However, Devin hung in his line well and in the final, two lap sprint to the checkers, would hold off Richards to take the win. Crosby settled for third with Aaron Bernick and Caleb Duffie all in the top five.

Fans are encouraged to arrive at the track early next Saturday as Kid's Night is one of the most highly attended nights of the season. Anyone wanting to donate a bike for the giveaways is encouraged to check the speedway website or face book page for contact information. Race time is 6 pm .
