Rice Lake Speedway Will Try Again on April 26th
Rice Lake WI – After the planned opening night for the Rice Lake Speedway was delayed due to cold and wet conditions that didn't allow for proper track preparation, Rice Lake Speedway LLC will try again on Saturday night, April 26th to begin the seventy third consecutive season of dirt track racing in the Rice Lake area.
Everything that had been planned for the opening week has just been set back seven days, which means that the practice night is now slated for Wednesday night, April 23rd with a rain date of Thursday, April 24th. Race cars in all divisions are invited to participate in the open practice session slated from 6-9 pm. The grandstands will be open so that fans can watch for free and the concession stand will also be up and running. Keep an eye on the speedway face book page for the latest updates for this event.
Then, hopefully, on Saturday, the racing season will begin with five classes of racers in action including everything from the Pure Stocks to the powerful open wheel Modifieds. All activities that were planned for opening night have been carried over to the 26th, meaning that the Easter Bunny will make a post holiday appearance and the Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled to begin at 5 pm in the grandstand.
The pits will open at 3 pm, grandstand tickets will be on sale at 4 pm and the first green flag of the 2025 racing season drops at 6 pm. Swant Graber Auto Group of Barron will be the presenting sponsor for opening night and the Best Appearing Cars will be judged with the winners being announced the following week. All admission prices will be unchanged from the 2024 season and new food items will highlight a visit to the concession stand.
On the track, a few administrative changes passed at the WISSOTA Promoters Association meeting last Fall will be on display. All WISSOTA tracks will now be awarding national points for heat races as well as feature events, making the preliminary races even more important than ever. The feature race lineups will now be done using the draw/redraw system which again puts more emphasis on good heat race results. The restart system has been changed also for 2025 and fans should wait for a full explanation on opening night from track announcer Ben Brost on what the changes will mean for the fans watching.
