Rice Lake Speedway Opener Countdown Begins
Rice Lake WI – The seventy third consecutive season of dirt track racing at the Rice Lake Speedway is set to begin on Saturday night, April 19th. At least that is the hope.
As of the weekend preceding the event, all systems are go for Saturday night's show. At the track, activity is proceeding at a frantic pace with last minute projects as well as track prep taking place. Crews are working on a number of projects to complete the upgrades for the 2025 racing season and the ownership of the speedway wishes to give special thanks to Northern Wisconsin Fence Inc, L&L Excavating, TLB and Superior Exteriors Plus for their help on various projects as the time crunch for the season opener closes in.
“The decision on whether we race on Saturday and practice on Wednesday will be 100% dependent on the weather,” according to speedway promoter Kolby Kiehl who is also one third owner of the facility.
“All the other projects will be done in time or at least functional for us to race. It all depends at this point on precipitation and temperatures, either of which could make it too uncomfortable for the fans and also not allow proper track prep to take place.”
The call on whether to practice and/or race will likely be made on Monday by the owners so fans and crews should monitor the speedway face book page for the latest updates as the face book will be up to the minute with the latest information.
If the opener is held as planned, Swant Graber Auto Group in Barron will be presenting the show. It will be a busy opener at the track as along with the five division program of racing, there will be judging of the Best Appearing Cars with those awards to be presented the following week. And new to the track, with Easter coming just one day after the opener, a huge Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the track before the races start so kids should arrive at the speedway early to participate in that fun event.
In other news from the track, The Bin Store has been signed up as the sponsor of the Kid's Club for 2025 with more news on that to be announced soon. Also, in an exciting announcement, The Springtime Mod Spectacular, to be held at the speedway on May 10th will feature a one of a kind trophy that will go out to the Modified feature winner. This event is sponsored by Henry Repeating Arms and they will be providing a special rifle which will be a one of a kind piece and a highly treasured and unique trophy to be awarded by Henry President Andy Wickstrom.
