Rice Lake Speedway Wet; Remaining Schedule Finalized

By Ed Reichert

Rice Lake WI, August 20 – A steady, all day rain ended any chances that racing action would take place Saturday night at the Rice Lake Speedway. It was scheduled to be Season Championship night at the track.

The rest of the schedule for the remaining two weekends of racing for the 2016 season has been nearly finalized with only a few details yet to be worked out.

Next Saturday, August 27th, the rescheduled Season Championships will be held in all five divisions that race at the track. Points will be used to line up the heat races with the highest season point total drivers slated to start at the front of their heats. The finish of the heats will determine the starting order for the Season Championship features to follow.

As a special added attraction, the UMSS Traditional Sprints will also be on hand to put on a full program of open wheel racing, minus the top wings. The Traditional Sprints were rained out in their first attempt to race at the track back in May, but have been booked for an additional appearance this coming Saturday night.

Currently, the UMSS shows a tremendous battle for their point title with veteran Rick Kobs leading young James Giossi by only eight points in their season long point battle, 3772 to 3764. Also in the top five in the points chase are Jake Kouba, Mike Mueller and Jimmy Kouba. Fifteen to twenty Traditional Sprints are expected to tow to Rice Lake on Saturday for their only event on the weekend.

The Bike races, which have been rained out twice, will not be held this coming Saturday due to time constraints.

The racing season will conclude at the Rice Lake Speedway on September 3-4 as the speedway returns to their old two day format for the season concluding events. It will be doubleheader racing on that weekend with full shows each night for all five classes that race at the speedway. The Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks will be WISSOTA sanctioned for the weekend with two full point shows. Also, the Pure Stocks will be in action both days for full shows also. While the Pure Stocks won't be sanctioned, the WISSOTA Pure Stocks are welcome to attend the event as home track rules will be in effect for the Pure Stocks.

For the first time in 2016, the Hornets will also be racing on that weekend. While it hasn't yet been determined if they will race both days or just one of the days, they will be racing at some point during the weekend. Again, while this class won't be sanctioned, WISSOTA Hornets are welcome to attend.

Full details on the schedule and the complete purse breakdown for this event will be determined within the next few days and details should be available on the speedway website and facebook page very soon. Start times for that weekend will also be determined as well as other details. Call Dave Adams at 715-205-2861 with any questions.
